Some inspiration

This is one of those posts, where I haven't actually done anything yet, but I'm hoping that if I post about my goals, then I may actually be motivated enough to follow through. 
To finish up the decorating of the nursery, I've been searching the blogosphere for some inspiration and have these two cute little items that seem simple, cheap but incredibly adorable for my baby girl's room.  Check out the inspiration and then check back in the next few months to see if I followed through on my goals!
First, the butterfly collage or it can be done in a shadow box using pearl pins to hold the punches in place, rather than the foam dots used in this one.

Next, this was originally from Pottery Barn- a butterfly chandelier.  But I've seen home-made versions that are just as cute.  I have some ideas on how to take this and alter it a bit to make it a bit more colorful, and not gold.  We'll see how they turn out.

Corn on the Cupcakes

Tonight we had the Blue and Gold dinner for Harrison's cubscout pack and he received his Weblos badge- very exciting!  Our pack does a potluck for the Blue & Gold every year and a cake auction to raise funds for the summer camps.  So our family was in charge of bringing one main dish for the potluck and one cake to be auctioned off.  Last year I made the mistake of underestimating the talents and creativity of the other families- the cake auction is more than an auction- it's a full on competition. So, this year, the gloves came off, and I made Corn on the Cupcakes!  But before you get too impressed with my homemaking skills....this is what I brought for the main dish we were in charge of.....

That's right- Costco Take & Bake pizza. Just keepin' it real!

I focused all my time and energy this weekend into making these little cuties:

Vanilla Cupcakes with Buttercream Frosting- decorated to look like Corn on the Cob- how cute!

The "butter" is a lemon starburst that I molded down the edges on to make it look like it was melting.

The "salt and pepper" are cookies-n-cream sprinkles- but you could also use black and white decorating sugar if you can find that.

I'm lucky enough to have a full-fledged Jelly Belly store near by, so I could go and pick and choose from all of the different jelly bean colors and flavors I wanted. I used pina colada, lemon, buttered popcorn, pineapple, coconut and lemon chifon.  YUM, YUM, YUM!!

Here is where I got the recipe and idea for these little babies! I highly recommend the book "Hello, Cupcake" -- so many cute ideas, especially for kids!

What did you do for your 3-day weekend?

We (James) spent our weekend painting the nursery.  The colors came out a lot brighter than anticipated, but we are working with it.  Here are some before pictures- the room was brown, brown, brown:

And here it is all white, nice and primed.  This actually takes the longest part. The painting was the easy part compared to the taping, wraping, covering and priming!

And now for the (almost) final version of Cassidy's nursery.  I say "almost" because there are still pictures to be hung and decorating to do. I'll post more pictures later when that's all complete.  But James is very proud of his paint job.  Especially the half and half wall under the window.

And Max can't wait for Cassidy to get here either.  He hung out all weekend underneath her crib:

Harrison's Valentine's Party

We've been having a very fun weekend so far and we still have tomorrow off!  We had Harrison's Valentine's party, went to see Percy Jackson because Harrison LOVES the books and then had birthday parties, video games, play dates and nursery painting all to do!
Here are some pictures from the party. There was a contest to see who could decorate their valentine's mailbox the best.  Harrison's is the mailbox but the winner was the girl who made a swimming pool out of her box! So cute:

And here are my beautiful Valentine's roses from my boys.  It's actually a small rose bush that I can (attempt) to plant in the garden in a few weeks.

We are painting the nursery, so I'll update with photos of that when it's all finished.  I thought I had choosen really nice, soft pink hues. But no...this nursery is PINK! You'll see...

San Diego Baby Shower

SUCH a cute baby shower I had this weekend.  We had a very fancy tea party with friends, family, hats, boas and yummy, yummy desserts.  Here's some pics from it!  I have to tell the story behind the picture of the beaded bracelet though.  All of the guests chose a bead to use for the bracelet that represented a wish, hope or dream for the baby.  Then we put all the beads together to make a bracelet for me to wear and everyone wrote a notecard to the baby describing what their bead was and how it represented their wish, hope or dream.  I can't wait to give her the notecards and the bracelet and remember how special that moment was!  Thanks to Mom and Kate for such a great party and for all the hardwork they put into making it such a special event for me.

Harrison and I had the following conversation when trying to decide who he should give Valentine's cards to this year. 

Me: So, do you want to give cards to your whole class, or just a few, special people like your friends and teacher?
Harrison: Well, I think McKenzie might be giving me a really big Valentine at the party?
Me: Why do you think that?
Harrison:  Because, she, like, loves me.
Me: Oh, well, how do you know that she loves you?
Harrison: Because. She stares at me during class. And then she hits me at recess.
